Ivy-Joan Madu, MD

Dr. Ivy-Joan Madu is a board-certified endocrinologist who has been in private practice since 1995. Originally from Nigeria, Dr. Madu completed her medical education at the College of Medicine, University of Benin in Benin City, Nigeria in 1981. She then interned at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital from July 1981 to June 1982 and served at the Police Clinic in Ilorin, Nigeria from July 1982 to June 1983. Dr. Madu was in private practice at Palm Beach Hospital in Lagos from September 1983 to June 1986. She then completed residencies in internal medicine at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital in 1989 and The Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, NY in 1992, followed by a third-year residency in internal medicine at the Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY in 1993. Dr. Madu then pursued and completed her Fellowship in endocrinology at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles in 1995.

In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Madu currently serves as Adjunct Nursing Professor at California State University in Long Beach, and volunteers at the Lestonnac Free Clinic in Orange, CA. She also serves as an Expert Medical Opinion for the California Medical Board and for the Orange County Public Defender. Dr. Madu has been principal investigator and sub-investigator for numerous clinical studies relating to type 1 and type 2 diabetes, anemia and chronic kidney disease, hypoparathyroidism and more.

Dr. Madu has received several awards for her work, including the Deans Prize for Best Clinical Student, the Professor Hill Memorial Prize for Best Student in Pathology MBBS Part III, and Distinctions in Physiology and Pathology from the College of Medicine at the University of Benin in Nigeria. Dr. Madu is certified as a diplomate in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism from the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Madu is a member of the Orange County Medical Association, the American Diabetes Association and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.

In her free time, Dr. Madu enjoys tennis, gardening and jogging.
